Why Counseling Works

Fighting the disease of addiction

Counseling can help in all the areas of life that have been affected by the disease of addiction. It helps to evaluate what contributed to the addiction. It helps to find ways to assess the issues or situations driving you toward the addiction. It looks at where you came from, your family of origin and the ideas you developed growing up. It can ascertain how you were raised, and how that created your beliefs and attitudes about the world outside you and the world in side you. Through this, one can better learn and understand the key factors contributing to the addiction.

A critical part of counseling is to identify destructive thought patterns, and suggest new, more positive ways of thinking that will help the individual fight their addiction. Andy Bhatti can help guide the patient to find hope, that there is truly light at the end of the tunnel, and that a brighter future is possible through an ongoing healing process.

At Andy Bhatti we support a healthy self-esteem and self-confidence that is imperative in the resolution of addiction and the withdrawal symptoms. A support system is created through a developing relationship between the patient and counselor, in which the patient is able to build their self-confidence by constantly reaffirming their personal self worth.

Counseling teaches those fighting an addiction or addictive-style behaviors over an extended period of time, by verbalizing, identifying and naming specific symptoms, and the events that trigger them. It arms you with the tools you need to fight the addiction and lead a sober life and can bring great relief and inhibit the condition from worsening.
